Abstract: Install a pump in a drainage inlet to remove water when no discharge option is available.
Many golf courses have flat, wet areas with no place to daylight pipe (a location where the pipe discharges water). Drainage pipe can be installed with a pitch of .01% and directed toward drainage structures or inlets. Small, submersible pumps can be installed in these drain inlets, and solid exit pipe directed toward ponds or approved wetland areas. The exit pipe is standard PVC irrigation pipe installed with a vibratory plow.
These pumps cost about $500.00. They include a simple float that starts the pump when the chamber is full of water. When the chamber is dry, the float stops the pump. Powered by 110 v or 220 v direct burial cable, they are perfect solutions for land-locked wet areas.
Cold weather superintendents remove them in the fall and return them in the spring.
